Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, India

ToPP Group

Topological Photonics and Polaritonics Group

We are looking for motivated PhD students interested in working on cutting-edge theoretical problems in photonics and condensed matter physics. The admission process is as follows:

  • PhD admissions are conducted twice a year: August and January intakes.

  • Applicants must have a valid GATE/JEST/NET score or be provisionally selected for an INSPIRE fellowship.

  • B.Tech., B.S., and Master’s students from IIT Bombay and other IITs are exempt from the above tests, provided they meet the minimum CGPA/CPI requirement, which may vary yearly.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.

  • During your application, please select "Optics and Photonics" as your field of choice.

  • Detailed admission requirements can be found at: https://acad.iitb.ac.in/admissions/research.

  • Although we are a theoretical group, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with experimental groups at IIT Bombay and internationally to validate theoretical predictions. Additionally, as a PhD student in our group, you will be expected to present your findings at national and international conferences. If you are interested in joining the group, I encourage you to review our research and publications page and reach out to me via email (subhaskar@iitb.ac.in) to discuss potential opportunities.

There are two postdoctoral positions available through the Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship. For more details, visit: https://www.iitb.ac.in/career/apply.

If you have a PhD in Optics, Photonics, or Condensed Matter Physics, please review our research and publications page and reach out to me via email (subhaskar@iitb.ac.in). As a postdoctoral researcher in our group, you will be expected to present your findings at national and international conferences. In addition to conducting your own research, you will also mentor Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students.

IIT Bombay Bachelors and Masters students interested in pursuing their final year project with me should email (subhaskar@iitb.ac.in) to discuss possible research topics.

In 2025, I will not be offering summer internships or short-term research projects.
